Short Dua for Success in Exams for Students

Knowledge is the light that brings man out of darkness and brings him to light. The progress of human civilization and the promotion of moral values are entirely due to knowledge. A nation that has paid special attention to knowledge has attained the position of world leadership.

Islam places great emphasis on the importance of knowledge. Allah Almighty says:

“Are those who have knowledge and those who have not knowledge equal?” (Surah Az-Zumar: 9)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has given a high place to the pursuit of knowledge. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim (male and female).” (Ibn Majah)

“Whoever follows a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him the path to Paradise.” (Sahih Muslim)

Types of Knowledge

From an Islamic perspective, knowledge is generally divided into two parts, and both are essential for the welfare of humanity:

  1. Religious knowledge: Through which man recognizes his Creator and learns the lawful and unlawful ways of living.
  2. Worldly knowledge (modern sciences): Such as science, medicine, mathematics, economics, and technology. These sciences are indispensable for serving humanity and fulfilling the right of Allah’s Caliphate on earth.

Acquiring knowledge is a sacred journey and the exam is a destination in this journey. If the exam is given with hard work and trust in Allah, then it also becomes a kind of worship. The real success is not just the acquisition of a worldly degree, but rather the knowledge of Allah and the service of His creation through this knowledge.

The following duas are very effective for exams:

Duas for Students

When the weight of the syllabus feels heavy, these short supplications from the Quran and Sunnah can provide immediate relief and focus.

This is the dua of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), which he prayed to Allah Almighty before going to Pharaoh. This is considered the best prayer for exams and difficult stages.

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

“Rabbish rahli sadri wa yassir li amri wahlul ‘uqdatan min lisani yafqahu qawli.”

“My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] and ease for me my task and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech.” (Surah Taha, 20:25-28)

2. Dua For Increasing Knowledge

This is a useful dua for students during exam days. After reciting this dua, memory becomes sharp, and it becomes easier to solve difficult questions. So whenever you feel nervous during the paper or cannot remember something, recite this dua with full confidence.

رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

“Rabbi zidni ‘ilman.”

“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (Surah Taha, 20:114)

3. Dua When a Task is Difficult

When a person faces mental stress or a difficult question during an exam, this supplication is an expression of trust and confidence in Allah. These words reinforce the belief that our hard work will only bear fruit when Allah’s help is involved, because He makes the impossible possible.

When you open the exam paper and find a question that looks impossible, recite this Sunnah prayer:

اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا

“Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla, wa ‘anta taj’alul-hazna idha shi’ta sahla.”

“O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy, and You can make the difficult easy if It be Your Will.” (Sahih Ibn Hibban)
