Barakah in business is a comprehensive word that is not only related to high profits, but its real meaning is the creation of goodness in wealth. If a small amount of money fulfills major needs and that wealth does not cause a person any problems, then it is called barakah.
Duas for Good Business Success
Allah Almighty has also taken responsibility for the sustenance of man along with his creation.
The Holy Quran states:
“And there is no living creature on earth but its sustenance is upon Allah” (Surah Hud).
But striving to obtain this sustenance and then seeking “barakah” in it is the way of a believer. Barakah does not mean only an increase in wealth, but also more comfort and fulfillment of needs with less wealth.
If you want to see your business succeed, the following tips and duas can be a guiding light for you.
Recitation of Surah Al-Waqi’ah
Islamic traditions and the sayings of scholars have described many virtues regarding the recitation of Surah Al-Waqiah, especially as it is considered an effective spiritual practice for blessing sustenance and deliverance from poverty and hunger.
It is narrated in a hadith that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever recites Surah Al-Waqi’ah every night will never be afflicted by hunger or extreme poverty.” (Sha’b Al-Iman by Al-Bayhaqi)
It is narrated about Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (RA) that he advised his daughters to recite this Surah every night so that they would never suffer from financial hardship.
Reciting Surah Al-Waqiah is an excellent way to increase your trust in Allah and find peace in financial troubles. Recite it with sincerity and with the belief that the true source of sustenance is Allah alone.
Dua for Provision and Success
This dua was recited by the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) after the Fajr prayer. The meaning of this duua regarding the blessing of sustenance is very deep and extensive.
The dua is not just asking for “sustenance” but “pure sustenance”. The first principle of blessing is that the wealth should be lawful. Good means sustenance that is outwardly pure. Eating which creates a desire to do good in a person.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan.
Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, a provision that is good (halal), and deeds that will be accepted.”

We ask Allah for a livelihood that does not make us dependent on others, gives our bodies the energy to worship, and creates peace in our homes. Blessing in sustenance means that Allah Almighty adds His unlimited blessings to our limited resources.
Dua Relief from Debt and Hardship
This supplication is narrated from Hazrat Ali (RA). When a man asked him for help in paying his debt, he said: “Shall I not teach you the words that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me? Even if you have a debt as big as a mountain, Allah will pay it off.”
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Transliteration: Allahumm-akfini bi-halalika ‘an haramika, wa aghnini bi-fadlika ‘amman siwaka.
Translation: “O Allah! Suffice me with what is lawful instead of what is unlawful, and make me independent of all others besides You by Your grace.”
Special Dua for Blessing
Ma sha Allah, ما شاء الله لا قوة إلا بالله These words in themselves are a source of goodness and blessing. When we acknowledge the blessings of Allah, Allah increases our sustenance.
ما شاء الله لا قوة إلا بالله
Transliteration: Mā shā’ Allāhu lā quwwata illā billāh
Translation: “What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except with Allah.”
Morning Blessing
In Islamic teachings, starting work early in the morning is not only a means of worldly success, but it is also a Sunnah practice in which Allah Almighty has placed special blessings.
The Holy Prophet (ﷺ has prayed for blessings for his ummah in the morning. The hadith is:
“O Allah! Bless my ummah in the morning.” (Sunan Abu Dawud)
This is why those who start their day immediately after Fajr feel an extraordinary expansion and convenience in their work.
The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) also used to start their trade and work in the first part of the day, due to which they were very prosperous financially and physically.
Charity: The Secret Recipe for Blessing
Giving charity does not decrease wealth, but rather increases it and brings blessings. Allah Almighty says:
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Surah Al-Baqarah).
Sometimes unexpected losses or difficulties arise in business. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Charity averts calamity.” When a businessman spends part of his profits in the way of Allah, he protects his wealth from the evil eye, accidents, and sudden losses.
Basic Principles of Blessing (Barakah) in Sustenance
Before praying, it is important to understand the factors that cause blessings:
- Taqwa (fear of Allah): Whoever does business fearing Allah, Allah will find ways for him from where he does not even think.
- Abundance of Istighfar: Repentance and Istighfar not only forgive sins, but also cause rain and increase in wealth and children.
- Trustworthiness and honesty: Speaking the truth in business and not reducing the measure and weight are the first conditions for blessings.
- Gratitude: “If you are grateful, I will give you more” (Surah Ibrahim).
Constantly pray to Allah Almighty for blessings in business, keep your affairs transparent, avoid interest and forbidden things, and be grateful to Allah in all circumstances. When you create ease for Allah’s servants, Allah Almighty will bless your sustenance.
May Allah bless and expand the lawful sustenance of all of us. Amen.
