Prayer is the weapon of the believer. Be it the matter of marriage or any other important turning point in life, one should turn to Allah Almighty and seek all kinds of blessings from Him. Marriage is not just a social contract. Rather, it is a sacred relationship that serves as a means of fulfilling half of the religion.
Marriage is considered a noble Sunnah in Islam. Allah Almighty says, “He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may find rest in them.”
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Marriage is my Sunnah, and whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not one of us.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Below are Quranic and Sunnah duas for marriage, achieving good relationships, and blessings in married life:
Quranic Dua for Best Life Partner
This dua is verse number 74 of Surah Al-Furqan and is one of the most comprehensive supplications in the Holy Quran for the happiness of married life. The beauty of this dua is that it uses the word “قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ” (coolness of the eyes). It means a spouse and children who are exemplary in morals, loyalty and piety. Seeing them, the heart finds peace and the soul finds contentment.
Transliteration: Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wadhurriyatina qurrata a’yunin wa-jalna lil-muttaqina imama.
Translation: Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.
(Surah Al-Furqan | 25:74)
Dua for Seeking a Job, a Spouse or General Guidance
When Hazrat Musa (AS) arrived in Madyan and was destitute, he prayed to Allah Almighty, as a result of which Allah Almighty not only provided him with a job, but also arranged for his marriage into a righteous family.
Since Prophet Moses (AS) found a good life partner after reciting this dua, it is considered the best for removing obstacles to a relationship or marriage.
Transliteration: Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqir.
Translation: “My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.”
(Surah al-Qasas | 28:24)
Dua for a Newly Married Couple in Islam
The most famous and comprehensive Sunnah dua for a newly married couple, narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA), is:
بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ، وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ، وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ
Transliteration: Baarakallahu laka, wa baaraka ‘alaika, wa jama‘a bainakuma fii khair.
Translation: “May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and join you both together in goodness.”
( Abu Dawood: 2130)
O Allah! Bless the life of this new couple. Create between them a love like that between Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ) and Hazrat Khadija (RA). Make their home a haven of peace, grant them righteous children, and make them the best companions for each other in this world and the hereafter.
Marriage is one of the great blessings of Allah. If you are worried about your marriage or that of your children, then resort to Sunnah prayers. Remember that every decision of Allah is for our good. Sometimes the delay in the acceptance of a prayer is a means of saving us from a great trial, so seek help through patience and prayer.
May Allah Almighty create the best and most virtuous relationships for all married men and women and grant peace and blessings in the lives of all married couples. (Amen)
